The big thing for a while now has been writing your own personal mission statement. There are dozens of blogs on this. For a while there it seemed like there wasn’t a day that went by when someone else was announcing their personal missions statement post. And now with 2008 here what a great time for people to reinvent themselves through various resolutions.
I for one am not making a new years resolution and I encourage you to do the same. If you really wanted to resolve to do anything you would have done so by now. Waiting for the Janus to pass you by shows either you don’t really want to do it, you’re not really dedicated to bettering yourself, or maybe you’re just lazy.
As for writting personal mission statements this is the most ridiculous idea ever. Maybe you’re the type of person who has inspirational post it notes all over your house, then I suppose your own personal mission statement would suit you well. For the rest of us however, it seems to me at best a distorted biproduct of corporate marketing or perhaps too many Gimbas, Kaizens, or 5S meetings. At worst a personal mission statement comes of like a manifesto.
How about for the new year try stop reading self help books and embrace the imperfections that make you human and who you are. If you and every other cube dweller are reading the same crap what competitive edge do you hope to gain on your multi-level marketing, hyper networking lifestyle?
